A group of twenty middle and high school students were able to offer their perspectives on their school environments with CCSD Superintendent Vallerie Cave and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Jessica Williams during their first Superintendent Student Senate Advisory meeting, held November 17 at Colleton County High School.
After a pizza and chicken wing lunch and a brief introductory session, the students were asked their opinions on how technology affects their learning ability in the classroom, what additional extracurricular programming they would like to see offered at their schools, school dress codes, school safety and student cellphone use. The students were able to speak their views fully and directly to the district officials present at the meeting.
The Superintendent Student Senate Advisory team will continue to meet during the school year to give their advice on other school district items. District officials will take the feedback given at these meetings and incorporate them into initiatives meant to improve school environments.
