Clemson University DLI Team Visits BES
    Posted on 02/09/2022

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, participants from Clemson University’s Dean’s Leadership Institute (DLI) visited Bells Elementary School to learn more about the challenges of rural schooling, and how the Colleton County School District overcomes those challenges, as part of its Listening and Learning tour.

The 14-person DLI team met with CCSD Superintendent Dr. Vallerie Cave, BES Principal Angel Parker, and Career and Technical Education Director William Hayden during the school visit. The DLI team also met with other BES staff and a group of Early Childhood Pathway students (also known as teacher cadets) during the visit. Some topics of discussion during this visit included teacher recruitment, bus transportation, Internet access, and other education-related issues.

Clemson University’s visit is born out of a partnership between Colleton County Schools and the Center for the Recruitment and Retention of Diverse Educators (CR2DE) housed at Clemson. Under the leadership of Dr. Reginald Wilkerson of Clemson University and Colleton’s own Dr. Vallerie Cave this unique collaboration will work together to strengthen the capacity of educational leaders across our district.
