Colleton County School District’s Cottageville Elementary School, Forest Hills Elementary School and Northside Elementary School will all receive funding from a $2.8 million Innovative Approaches to Literacy grant through southeast-based non-profit ArtsNOW.

This grant, funded by the United States Department of Education and shared with a total of six specially chosen schools in the southeast, will not only provide CCSD students with diverse and culturally responsive media collections in school libraries, but will also include professional learning for teachers and media specialists to help build literacy achievement in students from Kindergarten to fifth grade for five years.

ArtsNOW President and CEO Pamela Walker credited CCSD Superintendent Dr. Vallerie Cave for providing instrumental support for the submission and awarding of this grant.

“Pamela Walker, President and CEO of ArtsNOW, is honored to be partnering with Colleton County School District and Dr. Vallerie Cave to improve literacy through arts-integrated approaches,” Walker said.

Walker added that a team from ArtsNOW will be visiting CCSD in-person to work hand-in-hand with students and teachers.

Colleton County School District would like to thank ArtsNOW for their support!
