    Posted on 02/02/2022

Sixth grade Colleton County Middle School student Laila Moore was named champion of the 2022 Colleton County School District Spelling Bee on February 1, winning the event by correctly spelling the word “gimmick.”

Laila, the daughter of Kyle and Melanie Moore, will now travel to the Spellbound! Spelling Bee competition, which will be held on March 24 North Charleston Athletics Center to compete with over thirty other top spellers from across the Lowcountry. Laila received a trophy and several gift cards to commemorate her victory.

Fifth grade Northside Elementary School student Phaedra Payoute took second place during this year’s competition. Phaedra, the daughter of Glenn Frazier and Adria Salley, also received a trophy and gift cards as a testament to her exceptional performance in the spelling bee competition.
