Examples of Integration
of Technology Across the Curriculum
The following are some examples of how
technology usage is being implemented across disciplines throughout
the school district. (These are not to be considered an inclusive
list but merely a sample of some strategies being used in accordance
with the district's strategic plan.)
- The use of multimedia encyclopedias,
atlases, and dictionaries as research tools in various subjects.
(Language Arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, etc.)
- The use of presentation software (e.g.
Microsoft Powerpoint) for students to present their research
to their classmates.
- The use of word processing software
(e.g. Microsoft Word) to enhance keyboarding skills, complete
reports, import graphics, create charts, and create tables in
various subjects.
- The use of on-line information systems
(e.g. SCOIS) to complete research and to make reports concerning
career awareness, career preparation, school to work and other
links to educational issues and the "real world".
- The use of computers in music and art
to create and/or enhance their work.
- The use of the Internet to visit various
educational web sites, chat in real-time with students in different
countries, e-mail other students around the world using other
languages, and preforming advanced research.
- The teaching and training of students
and teachers in the use of various HTML software in the creation
of student, teacher, school, and district web sites.
- The use of DISCUS, a web based information
database, via a web browser, for information research.
- The use of INFOTRAC, a web based information
database, via a web browser, for information research.
- The use of SCETV, a web based information
database, via a web browser, for information research.
- The use of LIGHTSPAN, a web based instructional
program.
- The use of video technology to record
presentations, simulations, role-playing, and to create video
productions.
- The viewing of live coverage of events
(e.g. Space Shuttle, Oklahoma Bombing, etc.)
- The participation in research activities
such as those sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
- The use of CD-ROM technology to bring
a wide range of academic material to life for visual learners.
(e.g. the simulation of experiments, operations, historical events,
etc..)
- The use of spreadsheet programs to
compile, organize, analyze, and interpret data.
- The use of calculators to include traditional,
scientific, and graphic in various curricular applications.
- The use of desktop publishing and graphic
programs to enhance student work.

The 2000-2001 Integration of Technology
Across the Curriculum emphasis will be placed in the area
of training, support, implementation, and use of the state provided
informational databases. Upgrade of Accelerated Reader and Follett
Software.
