A hint from the media
center: Don’t forget to use DISCUS. What is
DISCUS ? DISCUS, which stands for Digital Information for South Carolina Users, is a collection of resources, called
databases. The databases include magazines, encyclopedias, reference material,
maps, pictures, recommended Web links and much more! These databases can be
used for homework assignments, for term-paper research, for information on
people, places and things and for much more. DISCUS provides access 24/7. Why should I
use DISCUS rather than Google or another search engine? DISCUS resources use the Internet merely as
a delivery tool to provide accurate information from recognized publishers.
The DISCUS databases include high-quality publications and documents that are
updated regularly and organized so you can quickly find the information you
need. Google and other Internet search engines are designed to search the
open Web. When searching with Google or other internet search engines, you’re
likely to retrieve lots of irrelevant, commercial and possibly poor-quality
results that may contain incorrect information. To get to DISCUS, type in
<scdiscus.org> or you may use the DISCUS link found on the password needed for home access from the
media center. |
