Answers to Commonly Asked Questions Concerning Attendance Zones and Zoning Procedures

Question: How will I know which school my child will attend next school year?
Answer: You may use this web site and type in your street name to find out which middle or elementary school your child will be attending.

Question: Under what conditions can an out of zone school transfer be permitted?
Answer: The consent order with the United States Department of Justice allows out of zone transfers only for the following reasons:

Programmatic - If the student requires a special program and that program is not offered at the school in the child's attendance zone, then a transfer may be granted.

Medical - If a child has a serious medical condition that is adversely affected by the school facility a transfer may be granted.

Employee option - A full time employee of the school district may request a transfer to a school that is reasonably on the way to their place of work. Such transfers may be granted as long as they do not result in over crowded classes.

Court Order - If a judge orders the district to enroll a child in a school other than the one that the child is zoned for, the district would be required to abide by that order.

Majority - Minority - A transfer may be granted if the transfer improved the racial balance at both the sending and receiving schools.
