Reading Recovery is a short-term early intervention that provides extra help for students who are some difficulty learning to read. Although it was first developed in New Zealand, Reading Recovery has been successfully adapted and tested for more than twenty years in the United States. During this time, it has wone the support of parents, teachers, administrators, school board members, adn legislators. Research studies document its effectiveness with over one million students in urban, rural, and suburban settings.

Children in the program will receive one-on-one instruction for 30 minutes each day until they are able to read as well as the average readers in the first grade. Reading Recovery students remain in the intervention for approximately 12-20 weeks. Teachers who have been specially trained in Reading Recovery procedures and techniques select and use a wide range of books and help studetns use their own writing to assist in reading.
