South Carolina Reading First
(SCRF), which is being implemented at BSE, focuses on placing proven
methods of reading instruction in classrooms. Through SCRF, districts
and schools will receive support to use scientifically based reading
research in classrooms so that all children learn to read well by the
end of third grade. Funds will support professional development to ensure that all teachers have the skills they need to teach reading successfully and effectively to all students. In addition, SCRF will provide assistance to districts in helping classroom teachers identify and eliminate reading barriers facing their students. ![]() The following statements will guide teachers as they participate in SCRF and practice their knowledge skills in the teaching of reading: *Understand young children and commit to their learning. *Possess
knowledge of the reading process.
*Scientifically
Based Reading Research (SBRR).
*Assess
students' progress and performance.
*Integrate
reading and writing instruction.
*Critically and
regularly analyze their practice.
*Collaborate in
a professional community.
